Day 5: Almost there...

Finally... A productive evening again! :) Picked up the replacement head gasket at lunch, and ran out to get a new set of Fel Pro header gaskets too. I wasn't happy with the Edelbrock's I had purchased, so I had Doug pull off the passenger side header (THANX!) and replace it with the FelPro.

While he did that, I completed the driver's side head and dropped the CC rockers on. Then, we began the battle with the header. Man, another big PITA. I was on the ground and he was above, and after much twisting, hammering, and repositioning, we finally got the #1 pipe to slip into the tube. Phew! So, on went that header and gasket. Cool!

About then Lee showed up, so we 3 hit the floor to install the y-pipe. All things considered, it went fairly smoothly. There were a couple of nuts/bolts that were tricky, but a little perseverence and some nimble hands paid off! Unfortunately, I need to pick up a couple of smaller bolts to finish the install, but that is a trivial problem! :) It's basically there..

Back on top, I wanted to get the rockers adjusted and the valve covers back on. So, I start adjusting, but quickly realize that the crank is 360 degrees out of whack. Oops... Loosen them back up, spin the crank, try again... Ahhh.... Much better! :) So, those gorgeous rockers are all tightened down and ready to go. Cleaned off the valve cover gaskets and the covers and bolted them in. It ALMOST looks like an engine again! :)

It was getting late, so Lee took off... I cleaned up the garage, and started arranging the remaining parts (basically the intake and wiring), and found my coil wire. Stuck it on, and realized that it won't work with the 96 coil. Hmm... No big deal. I'll just stick the stock coil wire back on. Wait a sec... I don't see any plug wires lying around? Uh, I KNOW I didn't throw those away!!! So, I check the entire garage, and no luck... So, did ANYONE who was working over here Sunday see what happened to my stock plug wires?!?!?! I really don't wanna have to go purchase a whole set just for the shortest of all wires!!!

So, other than those 2 little things, it looks like I'm all set to drop on the intake tomorrow night and fire her up. I sure hope I can remember where all those electrical connectors go! :\ Hopefully within about 2 hours tomorrow night I can spin her over and she what kinds of sounds she makes... I'm hopeful for nice ones! :)
